Great snare drum for the $$

This thing is awesome! I was intent on getting a Ludwig Supraphonic, and I am glad I didn't just jump into it, and shopped around. The nickel over brass DW is quite heavy for a snare drum, but the sound is every bit as good as a "Black beauty", and at half the price! It's just gorgeous to boot!

Simply Amazing!

I had a late 50s engraved Ludwig Black Beauty for many years, it was always my go-to for any application. It was stolen by some morally bankrupt individual and thank God I have no idea who that person is. My Wife bought me this snare for Christmas and I figured I’d give it a try and WoW! I had no idea that such a super sound could be achieved in this price range! I changed both heads and tuned to my preference and I continue to be amazed at every gig. When recording, it sounds just like my old BB. And on top of such an incredible sound, it’s visually stunning! I wouldn’t have taken anything in the world for my old Ludwig but the heart aches a whole lot less over her loss now.

Can't Say Enough About this Drum!

If you're looking for that workhorse snare that'll do pretty much anything you need or want it to, like the famous "BB" style snare, then this is it! It's got some heft to it, but not overly heavy, it's made well, and has a nice crack to it without sounding thin. New heads and wires is all I did to mine to dial it in how I wanted it.

Love it

Love the way this snare sounds. It is a good "copy cat" of the black beauty. Has a nice crack and a full sound. We use it in church and it is great for worship music. (great for most genres in my opinion)

Music background: Worship and Sound systems

Outstanding Drum

At first, I wasn't totally happy. I had a really heavy head on it and it wasn't giving me the sound I wanted. Then I swapped on an Evans HD Dry along with a Remo Hazy Ambassador on the snare side. Tuned the snare side good and tight then set the batter medium high. Added no extra muffling.

Wow it sounds awesome now. Nice metal shelled crack with just a tiny hint of ring (that's really only noticeable to me). Ghost notes sound great and it barks wonderfully when I lay into it.

Hardware wise it's awesome as well. The MAG throw off is the best throw off I've ever used.

Big props to DW for the drum and my sales engineer for recommending it to me.
