Definitely Worth It!

I had been given a OCDP a new Limited Edition 14 x 8-inch Steel Snare drum for my birthday a few years ago and really wasn't feeling it too much so it never got much use, well I got bored one day and decided to change the heads and got the Evans Hybrid and the Hazy 300 and WOW! Now it's been my go to snare for heavier songs. If you want a crack that will make your eardrums melt get this head!

A very good snare head

I've been using an Evans Heavyweight batter head for a while now. I dont like extra ring or overtones on my snare drum, specifically for the type of music I play. I have this on a 14x6.5 Ludwig Black Magic brass snare with die-cast hoops and a snareweight. It gives me a really good pop/crack from the rim shots and sounds more like a "mixed" sound overall. Dont get me wrong, this head will not kill all overtones, it will still let the snare ring a bit but it does feel like many thick or double ply heads in the sense that naturally it has less high frequency ring. I added my muffling to further control ring. As well, one of the things I always hated about thick, white, coated heads is the fact that after a short time, I wear through the coating and there is that "hole" in the center. Visually I think it looks poor. Not only does this hybrid head look great with its woven pattern, just like a marching snare, but there isnt a coating to wear down. I've played this head long enough now that I would have already worn through the coating and looked to purchase another head. This was the main reason I even tried this head. The upfront cost is a bit harder to swallow but it seems like it has much more longevity. Looks great with the dark nickel on my snare, it sounds great, and it lasts longer. Whats not to love?
