The Fast and Deep Sound of '70s Rock

The Evans Hydraulic Blue snare drumhead features two plies sandwiching a thin layer of oil, giving the head an especially fat, deep, and short sound made famous by early-70s rock. The oil decreases sustain while enhancing attack and low end. Plus, Evans Hydraulic Blue drumheads are famously easy to tune, so they're a great choice for troublesome drums or beginning Sweetwater players wanting instant access to great sound. Evans Drumheads has been in the music industry for more than 40 years; they pioneered the plastic drum head in 1956, and today they're just as innovative, always looking to the present and future needs of drummers worldwide.

Evans Hydraulic Black Coated 14" Snare Drumhead Features:

  • 2 plies of Evans synthetic film sandwich a layer of oil for enhanced performance
  • Oil decreases sustain and enhances attack and low end for that awesome early-70s rock tone
  • Super-cool black color looks great onstage
  • 14" drumhead size fits many of the most popular snare drums

Great snare head

Minimal sustain and great sound if you tune it properly. Also the customer service is impeccable and one of the best buying experiences on the internet!

Great snare head

This snare head is awesome. I wanted something different from my Standard Evans heads and after seeing this head and watching YouTube videos especially from one of the best drummers and Sweetwaters own Nick D'Virgilio, I thought I'd give it a try. Is it really easy to tune? No. But after playing around with different tunings for a bit now, I find that medium/ high tune is perfect. It sounds great and cuts through nicely and is durable. Would definitely recommend. Oil is also a nice feature.

Not quite

Tuning this head is equivalent to tuning any other head, despite the claims of being easier. To my ears, it only sounds good when tuned to an upper medium tension. Even then it sounds as if it were tuned high. I prefer a beefier sound and typically tune on the lower end. I tried this and it sounds horrible. Not a very diverse head, but sounds good when tuned right. I've put several hours on this head and it shows very little wear.

Overall:
Great Price
Outstanding logetivity
Not very versatile

Would recommend to a drummer looking for a high-mid snare with controllable, yet limited dynamics.
