Gibraltar GTC6DD Bass Drum pedal

I returned the Ludwig Speed King for this pedal - night and day performance. This pedal is lightweight and very responsive - Great heel/toe pedal.

Not bad

This is my first direct drive pedal so its hard to review it being as I dont know how its supposed to work or feel but its much different than a chain drive and definitely takes some getting used to. After about the 4th session of rushing and not being able to keep time, I had pretty much made up my mind that direct drive isnt for me. I put the chain drive back on and instantly felt a huge difference and couldnt believe I ever played a chain drive. Glad I didnt give up on this pedal. Its made a world of difference to me personally

Solid/ Versatile

Great all around pedal. Adjustable angle on the pedal height as well as independent beater angle give you a decent range to find a sweet spot. Low boarders as well as heel toe players will find it useful. The only thing I would change would be a larger board, but I have big feet,

Smooth and responsive

If you are new to direct drive pedals or want to try your hand or "foot" at one, this is a great pedal to try without spending a lot of money on something you may not like.

So, here's the thing. It feels different. It's hard to explain, but if you are used to chain drive pedals like I am it will take you a little time to get used to it. Once you do though, it suddenly starts to feel more comfortable and natural.

I still use a double chain drive pedal for heavier music and I use this one for music requiring a lighter touch. I find myself lifting the beater off the head with each stroke rather than burying the beater into the head like I do with a chain drive. This is obviously producing a totally different sound for the lighter music. The bass drum has more room to "breathe".

Inherently, it just seems to be how the pedal wants to play and I find myself breaking away from old and possibly bad habits. By expanding my horizons and playing different music than I am used to, this pedal is certainly helping me in achieving my goals.

I'm happy, but I'm unsure if I want to part with my DW double pedal just yet for the heavier stuff.

Several gigs in, still solid

Gibraltar has always been known for their hardware, but when it comes to other things like pedals, they've been sort of on the mediocre range.

They did their homework with this one though. It's solid with absolutely no side sway and it feels great underfoot. For the first several gigs, I carried a spare pedal "just in case", but I've never had an issue and I can now feel confident leaving the spare at home.
I would suggest a few things. Replace the beater and replace the spring tensioner rocker nut with a metal one. The one they give you is plastic.

It lost a star for some very minor issues below:

The plastic key holder broke off and I had to replace it.
The clamp tensioner wing bolt can interfere with the board on the downstroke if left at a certain angle.
I didn't trust the plastic spring/rocker nut and I replaced it with a steel one.

I had the double pedal version of this and returned it. I found too many things on it that made me nervous. However, the single is a really nice pedal at any price point.
