Big Sound, Small Price.

Disclaimer: I do not write a lot of reviews. In this case I felt compelled to do so.

It is easy for people to dismiss the PDP Concept Shell Pack as a cheap version of a DW kit and yes it is not the quality you would associate with a kit costing three to four times as much but, and this is a huge but, this kit sounds great regardless of the price point. It is also simply fun to play.

Pros:
1. Let's just get it out of the way, Price Point!
2. The finish is beautiful.
3. They sound great and thunderous.
4. You can get a variety of configurations to suit your style. - I went 13/16/24

Cons:
1. The heads are not the greatest but out of the six kits I have, in the studio, there isn't one that I haven't disliked the stock heads.
2. As great as the shells and hoops are the claws feel cheap and the threads on either the lugs and/or rods is not smooth. I am going to grease them up and see if that helps.
3. I don't really have a third because these are going to be used in studio and not gigged.

Conclusion:
Look, if you are a drum snob then you probably aren't looking at this kit or reading this review but you would be missing out. In the studio I need drums that sound great and have character. These drums deliver that.

Huge & punchy

Looked at these for over a year before buying. I watched as many videos as I could find of people playing them, and in all of them, the toms and kick sounded giant. Fortunately, this is true to life. The kick is like a cannon. 24 inches is the largest I've played, and the reduced depth saves on practice space. The toms are punchy with medium sustain. If you get these shells, replace the stock heads with something quality so these drums can show you how good they are. They come with Remo coated heads on both sides (who uses a coated reso??), which are trash. Obviously, the finish looks great. Wood hoops are a joy to play with. Great investment in my opinion.

Highly impressed

I was in the market for a studio kit specifically with a 24" kick. I ordered better heads but I was really impressed with how warm and huge the drums sounded even with the stock heads. Will you get better tones spending twice as much? Sure, if you're good at tuning drums. But at this price point you will not be disappointed with these shells.
