The Matt Halpern Signature Snare Drum

Periphery's Matt Halpern is a modern drumming tour de force, with undeniable chops and infectious energy behind the kit. Teaming up with the master drum makers at Pearl, Matt has created the perfect snare to highlight his progressively complex and idiosyncratic style: the Pearl Matt Halpern signature snare drum. This 14-inch brass-shelled snare features bespoke appointments, including a black powder-coated finish, triple shell vents, STL swivel lugs with eye-catching yellow gaskets, and MasterCast die-cast hoops. Lively, projective, and warm, the Matt Halpern signature snare drum has floored drummers at Sweetwater with its incredible responsiveness and bold sound. Crush it like Matt with the Matt Halpern signature snare drum from Pearl!

STL swivel lugs

The Pearl Artist Matt Halpern signature snare drum comes decked out in Pearl's low-mass STL swivel lugs, which are built lightweight so as not to inhibit the vibrational energy of the shell. They also look like a million bucks!

MasterCast hoops add extra pop to the attack

A pair of MasterCast die-cast hoops provides the Matt Halpern signature snare drum with extra projection and note definition while serving up a dry attack. Plus, these die-cast hoops let the Matt Halpern signature snare achieve a greater tuning range than other brass snares.

SR150 Click-Lock Strainer

The SR150 Gladstone-style snare strainer employs a classic design that is complemented with a modern Click-Lock system to ensure your snare will stay engaged even when you’re bashing away. Fast and accurate, the SR-150 snare strainer is perfect for keeping up with your energetic playing.

Best Snare Drum Hands Down

Power, Projection, sleek and stealthy black look!!! This snare drum has got it!! Weather you're playing blistering Metal, technical Djent like Periphery, or rock solid grooves, this snare drum covers it!!! And with already my go to Evans heads, what's not to like? You really don't have to change anything on this snare drum and it's ready right out of the box. Thanks Ken, Nate, and everyone at Sweetwater -

Another one with a Wow! factor

Ok so in the long trek of the never-ending Snare Drum realm, It was time to get another Brass Shell Snare drum to take out for gigs... Yes the BB stays in mostly for studio work. So after much thinking and going back and forth, Matt Halpern was choice #1 I'm A Fan #2 I enjoy signature Snare drums. So while the Looks are rather "simplistic" It grows on you quickly the Matte Black with yellow accents makes it look very "clean" (i hate that expression). I was truly skeptical about the Dry Heavy weight head it comes with, I kept reading how it makes the drum dry or Mutes it a bit. Well I took it today to rehearsal it was a Thrash metal project and I will I wish I had brought extra Gels ("moon gels") to quiet down because this drum has a huge Bark, Loud but with the pleasing tone of brass.Cannot wait to try it with my other projects. My dw Aluminum was my favorite but now this one is probably gonna takes it place on that list.
Lastly I noticed the Snare throw- off Is different it has the current Sensitone Style Throw off Not sure of the MOdel # off the top of my head but TBH i prefer that one anyway

It does sound as good in person as it does on the reviews

I've had this snare for one day. I thought I'd need more time to put it through its paces...nope. This thing is ready for a review. It really is that good.

I tuned it up (two full turns on the bottom head from finger tight, and a little more than one full turn on top), messed with the snare wire placement and tension, and played it.

I have a pretty well treated room, so I heard the drum for the first time in a space made for drums to sound good...and did it ever! It's bright, articulate, nice looking (even though it is an understated look)...it's perfect. I love that it comes with US Evans heads. I'm biased and love the Heavyweight line that Evans has made in conjunction with Matt, and the HW Dry is also EXCELLENT. I think the HW Dry is the perfect head for this drum.

I appreciate the inclusion of Die Cast hoops with this drum. The black powder coat is just cool looking. The brass swivels in the lugs is such a great look. Yellow dashes is cool too. There was a lot of attention to detail with this drum and I appreciate it.

I did own the Mapex Wraith and I like this drum WAY more. The Mapex is great but much more dry. I think the Pearl is much less of a one trick pony as compared to the Mapex Wraith (the Wraith does that one trick very well, though).

I don't see a rock situation this drum wouldn't work in.

I'm going to give the drum five stars. I do, however have a criticism. As of today, March 2022, this is an $ drum including tax. I expect a bit more from Pearl for what is, ostensibly, an $ drum. It came in a cheap box. Drum wasn't super well protected (did arrive safe). I did get a cool key with the drum and some paperwork, but other than that, for a signature $ snare drum of this quality, I do expect a bit more in terms of presentation. When I got the Wraith, it checked that box, almost obnoxiously so. I should mention that there is a badge on the inside of the drum that looks cool and has a signature and serial number, so maybe this criticism is fringe and unfounded and you should ignore it. Your call.

As for the instrument itself, it is exceptional. The fit and finish is very high. Made in Taiwan, however, it looks like it was made with a lot of care.

I've owned and do own a lot of brass drums, and this is among my favorites. This will certainly get a lot of stand time.
