Sound Quality 

The best way to understand the quality that these Sennheiser mics offer is by looking at each type of mic offered in the pack. Starting with the e614 overhead mics, they make your cymbals and hi-hats sound excellent. 

They have a super-cardioid pattern that does a fantastic job of focusing on your cymbal tones. They also exhibit a neutral response, giving you a fairly true overhead tone. The neutral response makes them easy to work with when mixing. 

The e-602-II kick drum mic is a popular option amongst many drummers thanks to its ability to strengthen low frequencies. It makes your bass drum sound quite meaty and powerful, which is perfect for drummers who want a strong sound from their kick. The overall sound you get from your bass drum is very full as well. 

The sounds you get from the e604 mics are very balanced. Whether they’re on the snare drum or toms, you get a flat tone that is just as easy to work with as the ones from the overhead mics. These mics sound particularly good on toms. You get a fair sound from the snare, but it’s not as good as what you’d get from a microphone that better caters to snare drum frequencies. 

Build Quality 

All the mics in this pack have very rugged construction quality. This means that you could take them out on the road and have no worries about them suddenly giving up on you. 

The bass drum mic has a large body, and it’s heavy enough to feel very sturdy once it has been placed. The overhead mics have small bodies, making it easy to place them around the kit and out of arm’s reach. I love small mics like these, as you never need to worry that you’ll accidentally hit them with your sticks. 

The tom and snare mics are also built very well. The best thing about them is their Advanced Shock Mounts, which lowers a lot of the handling noise that you may get when using them. That’s an incredibly useful build feature. The drum clips are also quite rugged when you lock them in place around the drums.

The excellent build quality of every mic ensures that this kit will always give you top-quality performance. 

The included case is arguably the downside of this kit when it comes to build quality. It has excellent padding on the inside, but the outer part of it is a hard plastic that doesn’t feel as premium as many other microphone cases. 

So, you may want to consider a different carry case for these mics if you do heavy touring with tons of gear being moved around. If you play gigs more casually, the case will be perfectly usable.

Value

The overall value of this Sennheiser microphone kit is fantastic if you’re looking for a full set of mics for your drum set that have pro-quality sounds and features. There are plenty of drum mic kits that have poorer-quality mics for the same price. 

I’d say it would be a safe choice to go with this kit. The thing that I like the most is that each microphone in the pack is highly popular on its own. That makes it a special purchase, as you get all these mics in one package, saving a bit of cash compared to if you were to buy them individually. 

However, there are a few competing drum microphone kits available that either cost the same or slightly less. While this Sennheiser kit offers plenty of value, those other mic kits from Audix, AKG, sE Electronics, and Shure offer just as much, if not more. 

So, you should carefully compare all your options in this price range and then decide which microphone kit will have the most value for you and what you need it for. You can’t go wrong with the Sennheiser e 600 drum mic kit, though. It’s a fantastic option with a lot of value.

Durability

Since the build quality of each microphone is so good, they tend to hold up incredibly well over the years. Rugged construction always leads to durable microphones, and you’ll most likely just need to replace a few cables as time goes on. 

The great thing about these mics is that they stay strong even after multiple drumstick strikes. While I don’t suggest hitting them with sticks often, they’ll still work perfectly if you do. 

To make you feel even more at ease, Sennheiser gives you a 10-year warranty when you buy this drum microphone kit. So, if anything does go weirdly wrong, you’ll most likely be able to replace certain mics within the set. 

The size of the drum and overhead mics adds to their durability, as they’re quite lightweight. So, accidentally dropping them won’t do much damage, and their hard shells will protect them from whatever damage may come. You’ll get a few knocks and scratches, but none of those will affect sound quality or performance. 

Versatility

Out of all the mics in the pack, the overhead mics are arguably the most versatile. They give such precise sound reproduction that you can use them for most instruments to get an amazing tone. On a drum set, you could also use one of them to mic the hi-hat. 

The bass drum mic is a bit less versatile, which is to be expected from a microphone intended for low-frequency sources. It works incredibly well with a bass drum when you’re looking for round and warm tones. It suffers a bit on attack compared to other bass drum mics, but you can always tweak the EQ to add a bit more in that area. 

The dynamic drum mics are very small, allowing you to use them quite easily in any drum kit setup. They’re almost as versatile as the overheads, providing incredible tones that tend to work in every setting. The fact that they’re so easy to mix with also adds to their versatility. 

Verdict

The Sennheiser e600 drum microphone kit is an amazing option for any drummer looking for a full set of microphones. While the pack is fairly expensive, these mics are all highly sought after, and you get incredible value from the set. 

It’s a bit unfortunate that you don’t get a snare drum mic that caters better to snare frequencies, but that’s just a small nitpick. The Sennheiser e604 is still a fantastic microphone that will allow you to get good tones from your snare drum. You’ll get even better tones from your toms with the other three. 

The e602-II kick mic and e614 overhead mics are incredibly popular amongst drummers and for very good reasons. Having those along with the dynamic mics is the perfect recipe for a great drum sound.
