Drumeo Edge Review – Should You Join?

Drumeo and Jared Falk have both been on my radar for quite some time now. Since around 2007, to be precise! Back then, there was very little content available online for drummers. YouTube was still a baby at this time. 

I remember being blown away by the production value of Jared’s videos even around this time and his engaging ability to teach drums with a real sense of calm. The sound quality and video production has always been top-notch.

Over the years, things have only gotten better for Drumeo, and the company has achieved astronomical, world-topping numbers of subscribers. And rightly so, because the platform simply rocks. That platform boasts some of the world’s best drummers to teach you everything you’ll need to know and how to stay motivated, and most importantly, have fun!

In this Drumeo Edge review, I’ll share my first-hand experience of using Drumeo Edge as an advanced drummer, and I’ll explain how the depth of the platform can benefit drummers of all different ability levels. 

I’ll also talk about the variety of content available on the platform. I’ll summarize the pros and cons of Drumeo so that you’ll be well-informed to decide whether or not the subscription-based platform is right for you. Let’s get right into the review!

What Exactly is Drumeo?

Drumeo is a comprehensive online educational drumming platform that boasts impressive content. It truly covers everything, including courses for playing every style of music and lessons on how to nail every drumming technique, right through from beginner to expert.

The online platform is streamlined, smooth, and easy to use. You’ll need internet access to log in and access all of the content, and once you’re logged in, navigating through the platform is a breeze. It’s very user-friendly, and this is something that has been significantly improved in recent years. 

Drumeo makes the user experience fun and engaging by rewarding you as you work through lessons and courses with XP (experience points), which helps to provide a sense of achievement, like progressing through a video game.

The production quality of the Drumeo lessons and tutorials is phenomenal. Everything is filmed and recorded in a professional-quality studio, and you are able to watch with ultra-crisp sound and several camera angles to help you progress.

Who Teaches Drumeo?

Drumeo undoubtedly has some of the world’s best drummers and instructors in the world on board! They have hundreds of professional drummers ranging from touring veterans who’ve inspired generations to modern YouTube superstars and across a hugely diverse range of playing styles too. 

Just to name a few of my favorite drummers, you have Glen Sobel (Alice Cooper), Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree), Alex Rudinger (Whitechapel), and Anika Nilles (independent). 

With some of the world’s most renowned names in drumming education, including Todd Sucherman and Bruce Becker, you can be confident that your drumming education is in very safe hands!

What Types of Content Does Drumeo Offer?

Drumeo Edge has a huge selection of content available for beginners right through to advanced drummers. There are hundreds of courses and lesson packs designed to equip you with musical tools such as a specific rudimentary technique to apply within a music style.

For example, the ‘heavy metal drum fills’ course is one of the courses available and this one is designed for beginner and intermediate level drummers. It includes a pack of 6 video lessons that are roughly 10 minutes each, and each lesson is accompanied by sheet music to practice the sticking and foot rhythm combinations. 

Each Drumeo course is designed to be learned with a selection of bite-sized smaller lessons that are approximately 5-10 minutes long. The lessons are easy to follow, and of course, it’s great to be able to pause, play, and rewind certain sections so that you can familiarize yourself with a tricky passage.

What Can You Learn on Drumeo?

There is an unbelievable amount of content, which is excellent news if you are considering joining the program now. You’ll be able to benefit from all of the content on the platform that has been created and updated over the years. 

Drumeo Edge has something for everyone. Quite literally. Whether you are a beginner rock drummer or a master Jazz drummer, there are plenty of courses available for you. The platform covers every style of music and almost every playing technique imaginable. 

For complete beginners, the ‘Drumeo Method’ is the ultimate program that is designed to take you from a novice to a competent drummer with 10 levels to progress through. Each level has a selection of course lessons clearly demonstrate how to play the drums with easy-to-follow step-by-step tutorials. 

As an advanced drummer, I have found the platform to be super valuable, and I’ve been able to draw lots of practical information from the lessons, by learning new creative ways of playing rudiments, drum fills, and grooves and applying this to real-world musical scenarios. There are plenty of advanced techniques to learn for experienced drummers like myself, too.

How Can Drumeo Help to Keep me Inspired?

Drumeo doesn’t just want you to become a good drummer. Drumeo wants you to have fun and to enjoy yourself. That’s what music is all about! A huge benefit of the platform is the new ‘Coaches’ section, where each day you’ll be able to listen to the world’s best drummers and communicate with them directly for feedback or advice.

Some of the Drumeo coaches include Matt McGuire from The Chainsmokers, Snarky Puppy’s Larnell Lewis, and musical composition extraordinaire Kaz Rodriguez. They are all on hand to share their expertise and knowledge on daily live streams.

And if you want to challenge yourself to learn new songs then Drumeo has you covered. There are thousands of songs with interactive notation and playback so that you can easily learn a song section-by-section. You can also slow down the speed of the playback, which is helpful too.

Is Drumeo Good Value?

Drumeo Edge membership is offered on a monthly subscription basis with a price of $29, but if you choose to buy an annual membership the price is reduced to $20 a month.

The annual membership also includes bonus added goodies such as a free low-volume practice pad, sticks, a book, and some added courses. 

You could also choose to buy a lifetime membership for a single one-time fee. But I’d make absolutely sure that you love the platform before going ahead with this! 

In my opinion, Drumeo offers fantastic value for money. The sheer volume of incredible, high-budget and inspiring content from the world’s best drummers is well worth the cost of the monthly or annual subscription fee. 

Verdict

I believe that every drummer would benefit from having a Drumeo Edge membership. The video lesson quality is second to none, with world-class instructors that are engaging and inspiring to learn from. 

With great variety and seemingly endless material, you’ll be hard-pressed to find anything better in the way of paid online drumming education.

I was somewhat concerned that Drumeo would be restrictive when it comes to providing helpful feedback in the same way that an in-person drum tutor would. However, I was pleased to learn that there is a section on the platform where drummers can submit videos for professional feedback. This is a great way to take advantage of the platform to monitor your progress.
